The ancient Vedic Mantras that heal and cure

ॐ भूर्भुवस्वः ।
तत् सवितुर्वरेण्यं ।
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि ।
धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

The Gayatri Mantra is the most revered mantra in Hinduism. It consists of the prefix :o ṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ ॐ भूर्भुवस्वः, a formula taken from the Yajurveda, and the verse 3.62.10 of the Rigveda (which is an example of the Gayatri meter). Since all the other three Vedas contain much material rearranged from the Rig Veda, the Gayatri mantra is found in all the four Vedas. The deva invoked in this mantra is Savitar, and hence the mantra is also called Sāvitrī.

Ever wondered what is the significance or importance of Mantra. or the sacred ancient vedic hymns?? Were they like ‘keys’ that would unlock the sacred pathway leading to a world beyond the unseen? Lets try to get some answers using scientific and ancient wisdom -

There are all kinds of frequencies and vibrations all around us. There are frequencies we see (such as light waves), hear (sound waves), or feel, and others that are beyond our ability to sense, such as gamma rays, infrared, or radio and television frequencies. In fact, the ancient Vedic texts of India explain, in summary, that this whole universe is the production or manifestation from particular vibrations that cause a change from the spiritual energy into the material energy. And all these frequencies effect us in many ways. For example, we may hear music that can be soothing and peaceful, or that is abrasive and irritating. Or there may be frequencies that we have to deal with on a more regular basis, like the noise we hear when working in a factory, or the sounds of downtown traffic.

Walk through a factory. The noise and vibrational level of the frequencies that you hear and feel are not attractive. In fact, they may be damaging to your hearing and necessitate the need for wearing ear plugs. Being around that kind of noise, which are lower vibrations of themselves, can make you restless or agitated in due time, tend to pull your consciousness down in a way that makes you think in very basic terms. They can make your mind become absorbed in the lower modes of thinking, like simply desiring to satisfy your senses, wanting to go to the bar after work to drown your thoughts, or thinking of whatever will give you the easiest thrill. In other words, exposure to low vibrations tends to produce low consciousness simply by your exposure to them. Let’s explain this a little more.

The science of vibrations and frequencies and how they effect people is something that has been around for thousands of years. We can still find evidence of this in the ancient Vedic texts of India. These explain not only the results of using the frequencies of words and mantras, but also supply instructions in some cases. The sages of ancient India used it to produce various results in the rituals they performed, and from the mantras they would recite. If the mantras were recited in particular ways, certain amazing results would take place, including changing the weather, producing certain types of living beings, or even palaces. Others used it to produce weapons, like the brahmashtra weapon, which was equal to the modern nuclear bombs. Specific mantras could be attached to arrows, with the sound causing powerful explosions when the arrow reached its target. Others used the science of vibrations to bring their consciousness to higher levels of perception, or to enter spiritual reality.

We can see the results of exposure to certain frequencies in other ways as well. Even now there has been research that has provided discoveries on the use of frequencies. They have worked with plants, exposing them to various kinds of music. Plants would thrive when exposed to classical music, while they would languish or wither when around heavy rock music. However, considering the nature of the mostly unenlightened society in which we live, some of these discoveries have not been for the benefit of the world and are quite scary to think of the results that may happen.

There has been proved to be a psycho-physiological sensitivity in animals and humans to magnetic and electrical fields in extremely low frequencies (ELF) corresponding to brain waves. These ELF, which can penetrate anything, have made it possible for the military to have a world-wide communication system with its submarines, which can be situated in any part of the world.

Man is a bio-cosmic transducer, a transmitter and receiver as well, and that somehow our brain waves can lock on and modulate with the earth’s electromagnetic field, the Universal Magnetic Field (UMF), as Tesla called it. Research has shown that altering these electro magnetic fields can influence the brain waves of cats and monkeys. Humans are also affected.

Anything above eleven hertz produces a general range of agitation and discontent. High voltage power lines throw off 50 to 60 hertz, and there’s been concern about what they can do to people who live near them. Some feel that such lines, or even the use of such items as electric blankets, can cause cancer because of the unnatural magnetic field to which the body is exposed. Researchers have concluded that humans are electrical people. For example, our hearts can start or stop due to appropriate electrical impulses. The use of pacemakers is an example of helping maintain a steady heartbeat. Thus, electro magnetic radiation could be the most harmful pollutant in our society. There is strong evidence that cancer and other diseases can be triggered by electromagnetic waves.

There are machines that use frequencies for beneficial use. There is a medical device called a Multiple Wave Oscillator, first developed by a French researcher and improved by solid state electronics. It used a miniature Tesla system consisting of two copper coils. When activated, a magnetic field is generated between the two coils and the frequencies can be adjusted for the electricity that flowed from one coil to the other. The result is multiple waves of inherently good frequencies to help heal various parts of the body. Sore knees or torn muscles can be placed inside the magnetic fields for a few minutes at a time, helping it to heal much faster than with conventional methods.

Researchers have found that frequencies under seven hertz create a general feeling of relaxation and well being, known as the alpha state. The most beneficial frequency on earth is said to be the 6.8 hertz frequency. Interestingly, the Pyramid at Giza has a constant frequency of 6.8 hertz running through it. Although researchers have studied it, they don’t know where it comes from or why in such an ancient structure. The Nadha Brahmam “Ohm” or “ॐ” or in Modern terminology Schumman resonance has a close significance Aum corresponds to the strongest of the schuman resonance among all other bio magnetic fields. We can relate the seven different chakras in body to these sounds and also with Schumann Resonances of earth, ie, 7.83, 14, 20, 26, 33, 39 and 45 Hertz of earth. We all know 7.83 hz being the strongest of all.

ॐ – 7.83Hz
Gam – 14hz
Hleem – 20Hz
Hreem – 26Hz
Kleem – 33Hz
Krowm – 39Hz
Sreem – 45Hz

This points to the idea that the ancients knew the importance of frequencies and how to use them in order to provide an atmosphere for attaining a peaceful state of mind for entering higher states of consciousness and perception of spiritual reality. The use of yoga has utilized this principle for as long as it had been known–many hundreds of years. Concentrating on the steady breathing, as in hatha-yoga, is a means of leveling and harmonizing the electrical impulses of the body and the beating of the heart. Invoking the alpha state by a natural means allows one to also reach a vibrational state in which the consciousness can enter higher levels of being and perception. The body is not only conducting the more balanced frequencies, but it begins to generate them as well. It is as if the body and mind are creating its own atmosphere in which it can further its more spiritual development, with or without the proper atmosphere around it. Building structures, like the pyramids and pyramid-like temples, which are common in such places as India and Central America, may provide the assistance for doing that, along with the physical exercises of yoga and the use of prayers, mantras, or rituals. By implementing such things on a regular basis in one’s life, it would increase one’s peaceful existence, bring about a higher state of consciousness, and insights into a level of reality beyond ordinary sense perception. In other words, it would naturally take one closer to the Truth of our existence. It would, as Tesla was hoping, bring the peace that would come from a natural consequence of universal enlightenment

A key point in this regard is the ancient use of mantras, as already mentioned earlier. Not only could certain results be attained by the proper use of vibrations in sounds, but even today the use of particular mantras are known for calming the mind, lowering blood pressure, relieving one from unnecessary anxieties by changing one’s focus in life, and so on. It is also understood that certain mantras and prayers, such as the chanting of the spiritual names of God, bring to one the transcendental vibration of the spiritual world from where it comes. This means it is like a conductor, bringing the spiritual energy and frequencies that come from the transcendental strata.

Thus, by absorbing one’s consciousness in the sound vibration of these names of God, it will do several things, such as alter and improve the electrical impulses that are generated by the body, and help defend oneself from the negative impulses that one may encounter. In this way, it helps create a peaceful attitude within the individual and a healthier disposition. It also prepares one’s consciousness for perceiving higher levels of reality, opens one up to the spiritual world, gradually reveals one’s true spiritual identity, which would also allow one to see the unity between all people. It also harmonizes one’s existence with nature, and even begins to rekindle one’s real relationship with the Supreme Soul, God. Once the higher vibration of the spiritual realm is invoked on a regular basis in this way, and is opened for its use among the people in general, the chances for world change become enormous.

Naturally, this may not happen immediately. One needs to be able to concentrate on those spiritual sounds appropriately. This means to rid oneself of the clutter in one’s mind. Only by purely focusing on the sound of the holy names can one truly feel its power, and open its potential. This is why there is a need for living a simple and honest life, and developing sincerity and devotion. It makes such a difference in being able to focus on the chanting of these spiritual prayers and mantras with feeling. Then one gives up that clutter which gets in the way of truly hearing the sounds and allows them to have a deep affect on one’s life. That is when the deep changes and insights can begin to take place. When the general masses of people begin to participate in this process, that is when the collective vibrations around the world can begin to bring social changes that will help lead all people to a higher and more peaceful state of being. The general frequencies that we generate and receive will then naturally be of a harmonious and spiritual nature.

This is fascinating stuff.
And I am totally aware – which is much more than just “believing” – that sounds can and possibly DO heal (or destroy).

But – and I am sorry if this sounds silly -I can’t help wondering: shouldn’t such powerful mantras be much more extensively used by now? Shouldn’t they be common knowledge by now, especially in the part of the world where it was first discovered? Wouldn’t the proven efficacy of such sounds ensure its preservation and swift diffusion (or slow, but diffusion anyway) around the world?

I don’t see that happening. There are probably more mantra-humming people in the world right now than there were at any previous time in history… And yet, we only hear of the likes of Sai Baba. (I mean no disrespect, I don’t even know the man; but, frankly, his “miracles” doesn’t isnpire much confidence in me).

To put it bluntly: if mantras are really THAT powerful – why, then, they aren’t extensively used (at least in the part of the world that is closest to the culture where they were “discovered”)?

@PrettyPolly
Actually, we are not speaking about miracles, as this topic can generate a lot of controversy. Almost every notable figure in almost every religion is known to have performed a major or minor miracle. We dont know the truth of what goes behind this magic, but I personally feel that a concept of miracle is more of convincing the followers of the ultimate divine powers, that one can get while practising particular beliefs and rituals. Socially, these paranormal activities can have a lot of positive impact on peoples mind and its observed that the more miracles a particular religion has, the more potential followers it can generate.

Regrding Mantras. Although there are several such mantras, there is a severe shortage of people who understand the more deeper, the inner science of mantras. It needs so much practice, so much dedication, so much clear mind, which in todays world, is difficult. However, the person with a sincere heart and soul can gain much wisdom then conventional people. Similarly, the mantras themselves choose the person who is capable of handling the awesome cosmic vibrations. Otherwise we would have seen bad people misusing Gods gifts, example is of fanatic militants who pose a grave danger to humanity and are a constant threat to world peace.

So, moral of it is – We do not choose who and what we our. Our destiny decides it. The mantras will gain their power, once they find the proper channel.

Considering a practical example from our day to day life.

Drinking 3-4 glasses of water everyday in empty stomach cures 20+ diseases. So does drinking 3 litres, keeps you healthy. Every one around the world knows this too. But how many of them really follow this. How do we explain this? Are we arogant or ignorant? What makes us not to beleive the science that these religions have gifted us? From being a way of life, today religions have become more commercialized.

There definetely is a lot of science involved in building temples, chanting mantras etc. Hinduism by itself is a way of life, and defines how human can live in harmony with the nature. Nature is immortal and so powerful.

What have modern science achieved over the past 200 years? Made the life more complex so that we have to rely on machines, polluted the whole planet, hole in ozone layer, global warming, el-nino, war and terror.

amazing article

I am so glad I stumbled upon your blog. I too wonder what was written in the first comment, why aren’t these things common knowledge? I would love to see the day where they are. Again, another person who commented made a great point, we all know water is good for us in a certain quantity; yet, how many of us follow this simple rule? True, life may be speeding by too quickly in this society for any of us to truly grasp and sit within enough quiet space to achieve the miracles.

Mantra are some thing which create Viberation and we know sound veiberation effect on us.. for this we can. use a glass of water . an play music in different mode.
When we play loud music we see vibration ….. and when we play the slow music then also vibration is there but cannot see from naked eyes.
Now we know our body have 75% of water , now u can ure slef judge what happen when we listen mantra or chant them.
And best is ………… DO IT TO BELIVE IT

hai, this is great.even though i have learning mandras ,it is now i got the real meaning ,thanks

My 2 centrs worth. Many wonder why these ancient knowledge about mantras are not common. The reason is simple. The understanding capacity of an average person was limited and was not evolved to make them understand in a scientific manner. Comparing to the present period, even just before 50 years back people were not ready to accept new ideas and new concepts. As we are approaching NEW AGE, we are evolving quickly now and we need these knowledge to upgrade ourselves for the on coming new age to survive as a human race. That is why many ancient techniques are getting approval from the ever questioning minds of the modern man.

Oops, I didn’t know this :)

thanks for enlighting me in scientifc manner , and teh importance of teh sound or its influences in our body

why you have stopped posting more articles on spiritual subject like Preya & Shreya, Gayatri Mantra etc. It is only a request from admirer like me Harshad,

From the old man in Houston,
RVRamani

Excellent and useful article.‘In Kali Yuga keep chanting Gayatri Name of the Lord. This is the only way to attain liberation in this Yuga.’ This is what I have been stressing time and again.

This devotee is asking, “while going through some sloka book we find the words above each sloka -‘for getting out of debt problems’, ‘for getting married’, ‘to safeguard oneself from enemies’, ‘for being successful in examination’, ‘for success of trips being undertaken’ – such wordings are put up. You will find the words, ‘you stand to benefit by chanting these.’

Is it enough if I, who have been chanting Gayatri or Rama Nãm, chant only this Rama Nãma or should I do japa of some other mantra for these problems?”

This is his doubt/question. The answer for this is that Rama Nãma is the name of ‘Parabrahma’ (Brahman). That is the root mantra (‘moola mantra’), first mantra (‘ãdi mantra’) and the highest mantra. Whatever is contained in all other mantras is found in this Rama Nama itself.

Gayatri or Rama Mantra is the ‘’Base’ for all other mantras. While speaking of the glory of Rama Mantra I have said,

What the scientists have now begun to realize, is that all knowledge contained in the vedas is proving to be true. Veda is knowledge revealed to us by our ancient sages and seers, they knew things we dont know yet.

1. Science is now beginning to say that life can exist in many dimensions, that there is life which is so advanced that it exists only as energy – that it does not need a body to be alive. Having said that, if you now look at the Bhagavath Gita as science (not as mystical and spiritual) you may begin to understand a lot more of the knowledge that has been passed on to us. That is what science is now doing, looking at ancient texts and trying to work backwards and explain what our sages and seers have already said.

2. Remeber the “vimanas” of Mahabharat and Ramayana. Scientists have been studying them for long now, there are dedicated sections in veda too on this science. Look at a diagram of vimana in the studies that have been done on it, their shapes are remarkably similar to the thrusters of present day rockets or what the UFOs are reported to look like. Not a coincidence. My point is even the scientists have been studying them for a very long time.
3. As far as vibrations are concerned they have healing powers – our scriptures are full of information on this too. You do not necessarily have to understand Sanskrit, once you have a mantra, learn to recite from the many cds available. Beleive me it helps. The sounds were developed to soothe our bodies and mind. There is nothing mystical. Look at it as science. As you get deeper into it, many questions our answered from within.
4. As far as Sanskrit is concerned, if you know the Hindi alphabet, you can read the Sanskrit mantra with the aid of CDs. And the internet has tonnes of info on this.

Great information Harshad.Thnx for sharing it.

great information.
@polly
Your question is valid. But the answer is also obvious.
In ancient times too, not all the people used the mantras as effective way to improve the lives. These were used by Rishis / people with higher spiritual / material goals in life, not the common man.
Knowledge and its implementation are two different things. I know that eating too much sweet/oily stuff would harm my body, I know of bad effects of cold drinks and junk food. But to reisst the temptation requires discipline, patience and consistency. Thats where a common human being breaks down. That’s the reason it has not percolated to too many people.
The Knowledge existed for hundreds of years. But implementing those things as a way of life required discipline, and consistency. The modern scinece discovered ways to improve the material life because then it made everything easy and fast, letting one get away from much discipline and contol etc.

please u ppl must have a look at this site

http://www.hitxp.com

u can get some information about the vedas by gurudev

Hey Man,
This is awesome! I read it already but didn’t get time to post it.

Forgive me, but I’m deeply skeptical about such claims, esp. when they are couched in scientific terminology.

You associate Schumann responses and seven sounds from the vedic texts. On what basis? The wikipedia page lists five (not seven) resonant frequencies at 7.83, 14.3, 20.8, 27.3 and 33.8 Hz in the ELF (extremely low freq) spectrum.

If you had to have the number seven, here’s an alternative hypothesis: the number of big planetary objects visible to the naked eye (sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars, jupiter, saturn).

Second, there is really no correlation between alpha waves and serenity. Alpha waves have been noted with an agitated mind as well. See http://www.skepdic.com/alphawaves.html for starters.

It is time to question blind belief.

Hi,

I have come to realise such facts about mantras rituals and devotion from a young age. In my life the information about this topic has been filtered to me, a little at a time year after year and I have had to connect the dots.

Firstly: about the reasons why everybody doesn’t know about it. And why it isn’t commonly known. Read the above comments by others carefully. One says these vibrations can heal or destroy while another says why isn’t it used widely. If this can become harmful, it will only be by intention. There is a DalayLama and an osama in the world. So I ask to use caution when making this known to the world.
Simply put the power is in the intention, when using mantras and vibration.

Secondly where does the miracle come from?
Well in all my contemplations between old tales and modern reasoning, the people that where enlightened by first obtaining the mantras knew (I’m guessing because I wasn’t there) that for every bad person (ravan) that used the mantra it actually diluted its power. Made it weak, non-effective or unresponsive. So to maintain its purity they used initiation, via swami’s n gurus, to pass it down generation-by-generation making sure the people that where given the secrets of the mantras where pure in there soul and had good intentions (there’s that word again “intention”)

A documentary on national geographic some years ago spoke about the beginning of the universe. You must be wondering where is he going with this. It gets stranger but it will make since soon enough. So, in this documentary they spoke about the cosmic sound that’s always there. The sound is from the creation of the universe (big bang) if u want to hear the sound its easy, it’s the sound you get between radio stations, that static is the sound that’s interfering with the transmitting of the radio signal. If that sound is the only pure thing left behind by the miracle of creation. People have compared it to the sound of Aum. It would make sense that the sound still carries the magic of creation in it till this day.

Kind regards
Zay

im still searching for the most powerfull mantra in the world…
