blow slowly

While going on a morning walk

on this road

goes no one

autumn and me but…

 

For a lone and heartlessly cold night

i threw away

a midnight dream

in a midnight dream…

 

Winter walking in Pune

falling on the ground

settles in autumn dust

a dry leaf..

 

For the leafless neem tree in my garden

eagle hovers..!

little squirrel scampering

leafless autumn tree..!!

used to pose in pride

till autumn came…

It began last year..

13 June 2008.

1 year exactly…So many things there I dont want to remember.

It ended..it had to..either this way or that..I am relieved it did..not the way I wanted, but still….Its over…forever..

The end brings a new beginning

The end was actually hiding a new beginning in its sphere;

darkness became the light,

the wind turned into the smell of fear…

2008 will end soon. Thank you to everyone who supported me. I had promised, even if this blog might stop for a while, the journey still continues…Some of you mailed me, some of you called me, I thank you. I wont pretend, but your words helped me a lot..

This is a new venture by me into realms of unknown. I have tried to be honest while writing the Haiku, an art that is obscure, difficult to master, yet at the same time offers simple advice to the reader, the Zen way. At the same time, you can find humour, sarcasism, philosophy, rhythm a blend of everything…As a kid, I read a lot of Aesops Fables, Panchatantra, Indian legends, so expect to find the wise sages, the lonely Hermits, the houseless woods, speaking tigers, poisonous snakes, dangerous scorpions, smiling babies, everything that we encounter in our dreams and real life .Sometimes you might not actually feel like reading a stereotype Haiku, but i have tried to preserve the ’3 line rule’ , short is sweet..It offers me several advantages -

1. It requires less time to write

2. It helps to deliver the right message in right time

3. Offers you lot of flexibility in reading, you dont need to be holed up forever in front of pc all the time..

What more I can say now? Its time you can go and read it. Mind you, its Twitter, microblogging has got some limitations, the Haikus I wrote still maintain a rough edge, but I havent tried to hide the naiveness, maybe it will help to end the learning phase a little more fast..Twitter cannot substitute WordPress, but for the timebeing, it serves well..

This Haiku is obviously meant to target all marketting mongers. They are all of the same catagory, they try to sell you anything making it appear useful, however you bring it, you realize, its a waste of resources. We all need to be careful. Dont invest into something that appears glamorous, glosy. Too much of shine can be harmful. Your money/time/resources are precious, use them wisely and dont succumb to any pressure. In todays age, where recession looms ahead, job cuts are round the corner, we need to make sure we act wisely.

Weak people have got no options…

Todays tough age demands more out of us. No one can afford to be weak and request help all the time. Its apparant that a weakling is a burdan in any society. Unless you are strong, you are firm, you will always stay at the mercy of others, thus making your life miserable and weak. A weak person always desires peaec, but he is unable to fight for it, thus living forever in grief..A lesson we learn from Indias IT sectors debacle – Depend on US for yor jobs, you will always be at the perils of anti outsourcing voices. Obama isent a good man who will work in your favour, making life easy for you. The time isent the same now. Its time to get tough and act accordingly..Develop your own technology and then sell it. Sooner or later the world will be at your feet.

आता आठवताहेत..

आता अनोळखी होऊन गेलो आहोत आपण…. आता आहेत त्या फक्त आठवणी..

आधी.. सकाळी उठल्यावर पहिला फोन तुला.. जेवायच्या वेळेस फोन.. सन्ध्याकाळी फोन.. झोपण्यआधी फोन..
आता.. तुझ्याशी फोन वर बोलुन ८ महिने झाले.. ते हि बळजबरीचे बोलण..

तेव्हा.. रोज chatting.. खूप busy असलेल्या दिवशी सुद्धा missed call देवून.. वेळ ठरवून chatting..
आता.. शेवटचा mail कधी आला तुझा ते सुद्धा आठवत नाहिए..
आणि chatting?? बोलणच खुण्टलय तर कसल chatting??!!??

काय म्हणायच त्याला? जे पुर्वी होत? प्रेम? नाहिच.. अस विसरत का कोणी प्रेम? ती होती एक चूक.. तू केलेली, आणि तुझ्या प्रेमाखातर मी ही केलेली..

“मी तुझ्याशी बोलल्याशिवाय नाही राहू शकत ग.. “
“तुझा mail आला ना कि एकदम माझे डोले लकाकतात.. i feel much better..i donno why पण एकदम relaxed वाटत.. कितीही रुसलीस ना तरी mail करत जा.. “

आता उरल्या त्या सगळ्याच्या आठवणी आणि.. आणि हे..

Life is like that, and no matter how brave I pretend to be sometimes, some things really left an indelible mark on me, although it was nothing earth breaking or nerve shatttering thing, maybe I was a bit changed.

Tip – I want to know who reads this post and finds it relevant.

Moral of the story – This post is dedicated to a wide spread misuse of chatting and instant messaging. I wish I post the real dialog I had, but today, I do not have any kind of feelings left with me, Life has taken a new turn and all the old griefs are dead… For some strange reasons unknown to me, I have seen people behave like fools and they reason it for love, baah..There are very important things in life, and I do not think that a so called love is one of them..

I think this is the last post having a tag ‘Love’ on this little blog.

Had a talk with Valencia. She insisted I should write a tag on myself..Tough job. Its hard to write everything uncensored. I mean theres nothing too shameful or nothing too great, but somethings better left unmentioned bring good results. I remember, last year @ this part of year, she had called me, I was unreachable..Today I am reachable, she isent there..god bless her….Life’s great…!

Unexpected problems??

The best way to avoid problems, is to avoid them.

Look around, you will get to see people who are perfect, they just dont seem to have any kind of conflicts, or any issues, they get well with any situation, any kind of people, they appear so natural, so flawles, sometimes we call them as happy go lucky, but sadely,the moment we try to act like them, we are in deep deep trouble..Heaven sake dont try to copy someone because it appears attractive or seems so perfect and so right for them. Once you are in a problem, dont crib over you getting caught in there when someone else was deserving it, just accept the fact that you werent smart enough to get out of it.

Last week, an errant rave party convict started screaming at me explaining that the rave party was good, he was innocent, and things like that..Actually, I didnt bother anything, but I realized, that he, along with his physiotherapist sister were facing problems, just like I described above. For them, rave party wasent the problem. The problem was, they found their names in the list of convicted people I had put up almost year ago..I imply said- If all that you are fgetting problamatic over seeing your name, the best solution was not to attend the party where you knew drugs were distributed freely…Maybe thats was their fasination, who cares?? That called me a moral brigadeer, a moral police(Hey, what does it mean?), he also called me a Talibani (rofl)..

Anyway, all I can say is – ‘Dont ever get into trouble, and if at all you do, just accept it as fate.’

Sonali Kulkarni – the new face in Indian modelling field

I saw her first at Zee Marathi Awards 2008. I searched Google/Yahoo/Flickr, but all that I got was Sonali Kulkarni, the arts film actress. Finally, after much search and much wait, I got hold of her pic. Next time someone searches for Sonali Kulkarni images, this picture should be displayed in the results. Lets see…Its good to know that she hails from Pune.Umm…thats cool.

You were the one I was dreaming all my life..You were my rain, you were the Sun, I needed both, because I needed you..Words are poor substitutes for feelings, specifically those feelings which are intense, at the same time too complex…But now what remains is the Ashes…The Ashes of Desires…The word cruel is too overused, how can people be so cruel? Why? What makes them behave so brutally? Am I always wrong in learning people? How can it be? She was so beautiful…I remember..it was cold November..leaves were falling..life was a dream…Today my dreams are lost, but I thank God for the little chance he gave me to have those wonderful experiences. Thank You God, I used to see you through her. Bless her.

I agree that this short peom isent mine, I take no credits for it. I dont know who’s written it, but what matters is that its an apt example of whats going through my mind..Normally I dont speak mushy, but now I am letting it out in public.

Honey, listen to me, you may never know or understand  it, but if you  read this, I confess that I loved you more then anything else. True we may never meet, but if I could show you what true love was, then its this….My words are turning empty, but the feelings arent…Dear God, if you get time from you daily chores, can you please listen up a prayer I sent for her? Keep her happy. Just keep her happy, I know what pain is like, but I wish she remains happy. She retaught me the purpose of life.Those beautiful moments she passed with me make me feel heaven. I have no complaints with what happened, nor I care a damn about whats gonna take place, but the fact is, I am in deep love, I am rediscovering myself in a form previously unknown to me..

Gosh, these feelings….let the rain come down and wash away my tears, let it shatter the walls and drown my fears..I feel as if I had been kissed by an angel of Love..A new day …has come…..

Yamaha kills competition, launches the topline sports bikes in India

Well, its time to rejoice…Finally after months of waiting, the fans of Yamaha in India are now presented a gift in form of this wonderful Yamaha MT ..This bike was launched in Delhi last night. Although the price isent clear, it will definately be a tad expensive then other bikes in India.

Pune rural police crack a rave party

Vishwas Nangre Patil  on early Monday raided a rave party at a pub in Juhu area and detained 240 young men and women after seizing a large quantity of drugs.

According to a police official, the raid at Mumbai 72 Degree East, yielded over 100 tablets of ecstasy drugs and other narcotics like heroine, LSD and cocaine.

The official said that a filmmaker is one of the co-owners of the pub. That film maker is Mr Shakti Kapoor.

Among the detained include son of a Bollywood actor, 40 young women and a couple of foreign nationals.

Eight drug dealers who were present on the premises have been arrested.

अमली पदार्थांच्या नशेत व मद्याच्या धुंदीत “रेव्ह पार्टी’मध्ये झिंगलेल्या सुमारे २८९ जणांना जिल्हा पोलिसांनी आज पहाटे सिंहगड पायथ्याजवळ छापा घालून पकडले. त्यात प्रामुख्याने तरुण-तरुणींसह उच्चभ्रूंचा समावेश असून, तीन परदेशी “डीजे’ व पाच परदेशी नागरिकांचाही या कारवाईत समावेश आहे. …..
खास धूळवडीनिमित्त आयोजित करण्यात आलेल्या या “पार्टी’ची निमंत्रणे एका संकेतस्थळाद्वारे; तसेच “ऑर्कुट’ व “एसएमएस’द्वारे पोचविण्यात आली होती.

दिल्ली, मुंबई, अहमदाबाद, बंगळूर, चेन्नई, चंडीगड, ठाण्यासह पुण्यातील विद्यार्थी, “आयटी’ व्यावसायिक, बीपीओ व कॉल सेंटरचे कर्मचारी, दोन हवाई सुंदरी, धनाढ्य व्यावसायिक, खासगी कंपन्यांतील बड्या अधिकाऱ्यांची मुले आदी पार्टीत सहभागी झाली होती. अनेक जण या पार्टीसाठी विमानाने आल्याचे त्यांच्याकडे सापडलेल्या तिकिटांवरून आढळले. पोलिसांनी ताब्यात घेतलेल्यांमध्ये प्रामुख्याने युवकांचा भरणा आहे. त्याशिवाय पुणे, पिंपरी-चिंचवड परिसर व ठाणे परिसरातील परप्रांतीय विद्यार्थीही मोठ्या संख्येने आले होते. पोलिसांनी पहाटे ताब्यात घेतल्यावर सकाळी दहानंतर त्यांची नशा उतरली व नंतरच त्यांची नावे समजू शकली. पोलिसांनी एकूण २५१ तरुण व २९ तरुणींना ताब्यात घेतले आहे.

ही पार्टी आयोजित केल्याच्या आरोपावरून एकूण नऊ जणांना अटक करण्यात आली आहे. सूत्रधार ध्रुव पवन कौशल (वय २२, रा. निवेदिता टेरेस, वानवडी) व परमजितसिंग हरचरणसिंग ब्रार (वय २७, रा. नॅन्सी गार्डन, वानवडी) यांना अटक झाली आहे. जागामालक रामदास चंद्रकांत हगवणे (रा. डोणजे), शरद मुलोत शंकर (रा. अंधेरी, मुंबई), शिवेंद्रू प्रभातकुमार गुप्ता, स्टीफन एर्विन मुल्लर, ख्रिस्तोफर (दोघे रा. जर्मनी), शिलार्ण अच्युत वझे (वय २४, रा. जुहू), सिमृत हरीश सिल्मली (वय २४, रा. वरळी, मुंबई) यांना अमली पदार्थांच्या विक्री व त्यासाठी मदत केल्याच्या आरोपावरून अटक झाली आहे. या “पार्टी’मागे संघटित टोळी कार्यान्वित आहे का, याचाही पोलिस तपास करीत आहेत. पॅलेस्टाईनचे तीन, जर्मनीचे दोन व इराणचे तीन नागरिक या पार्टीत सापडले.

घटनास्थळावरून पोलिसांनी १७ चिलीम, १०० ग्रॅम चरस, अमली पदार्थांच्या “कॅप्सूल’ व पावडर, ३०० टीन बिअर, म्युझिक सिस्टीम व मोठ्या प्रमाणात अमली पदार्थांचा साठा जप्त केला आहे. काही अमली पदार्थांची रासायनिक प्रयोगशाळेतून खात्री झाल्यावर ते कोणत्या प्रकारचे आहेत हे निष्पन्न होईल, अशी माहिती जिल्हा अधीक्षक विश्‍वास नांगरे-पाटील व अतिरिक्त अधीक्षक प्रवीण पाटील यांनी दिली. पुणे पोलिसांच्या अमली पदार्थविरोधी पथकाचे प्रमुख निरीक्षक शेषराव सूर्यवंशी यांनी आर्थिक गुन्हे विभागाचे उपायुक्त सुनील फुलारी यांना ही घटना कळविली. श्री. फुलारी यांनी श्री. नांगरे यांच्याशी काल रात्री संपर्क साधला.

श्री. नांगरे, श्री. पाटील यांच्यासह १५ अधिकारी, दहा महिला कर्मचारी व ८० कर्मचाऱ्यांच्या पथकाने साध्या वेशात पहाटे दोन वाजून दहा मिनिटांनी छापा घातला. छापा घालण्यापूर्वी तयारीचा भाग म्हणून पोलिस वेशांतर करून सुमारे अर्धा तास “पार्टी’मध्ये सहभागी झाले. त्यानंतर सर्व पथकांनी एकाच वेळी कारवाई केली. त्या वेळी ४५ मोटारी व २९ दुचाकीही पोलिसांनी ताब्यात घेतल्या.

या पार्टीसाठी प्रवेश शुल्क होते. प्रवेशासाठी “कार्ड’ तयार करण्यात आले होते. एक संकेतस्थळ, ऑर्कुट व “एसएमएस’द्वारे गेल्या आठवड्यापासून संपर्क साधून पार्टीचे आमंत्रण दिले जात होते. ताब्यात घेतलेल्या सर्वांना सात पोलिस वाहनांतून जिल्हा अधीक्षक कार्यालयात आणण्यात आले. छापा घालून पोलिस परतत असताना पहाटेपर्यंत या पार्टीसाठी लोक येत होते; मात्र छाप्याची माहिती कळताच त्यांची वाहने माघारी फिरत होती.

या प्रकरणी हवेली पोलिस ठाण्यात गुन्हा दाखल झाला आहे. ताब्यात घेतलेल्या व्यक्तींवर अमली पदार्थांचे सेवन केल्याच्या आरोपावरून गुन्हा दाखल करण्यात येणार आहे, असे श्री. नांगरे यांनी सांगितले.

“शायनी’ निसटली
या पार्टीमध्ये “शायनी’ नावाची महिला “कॅलिफोर्निया ड्रॉप्स’च्या दीड हजार बाटल्या (आंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजारपेठेतील किंमत तीन कोटी रुपये) घेऊन येणार आहे, असे पोलिसांना समजले होते. त्यासाठी पोलिसांनी सापळा रचला होता; मात्र पोलिसांचा छापा पडल्याचे समजल्यावर ती महिला तिकडे फिरकली नाही. तिच्यावर आयर्लंडमध्ये अमली पदार्थ विक्रीचे तीन गुन्हे आहेत, अशी माहिती समजली असून, त्याबाबत सध्या खातरजमा सुरू असल्याचे पोलिसांनी सांगितले.

“रेव्ह पार्टी’ म्हणजे काय?
एका ठराविक ठिकाणी विशिष्ट दिवशी “पार्टी’ आयोजित केली जाते. शुल्क आकारून फक्त निमंत्रित किंवा काही ठराविक व्यक्तींनाच प्रवेश दिला जातो. त्या ठिकाणी दारू, बिअरची खुलेआम विक्री होते; तसेच अमली पदार्थही विकले जातात. या पार्ट्यांत येणारा वर्ग प्रामुख्याने अमली पदार्थांचे सेवन करण्यासाठी येतो. त्या वेळी “डीजे’च्या मदतीने संगीताची धूम सुरू असते. रात्री अकराला सुरू होणारी पार्टी सकाळी सातपर्यंत चालते. अशा प्रकारच्या पार्ट्या, दिल्ली, मुंबईत नियमितपणे होतात. मुंबईतील “अक्‍सा’ बीच त्यासाठी कुख्यात आहे. पुण्यातही सिंहगड पायथा परिसरात नुकतीच अशी एक पार्टी झाल्याची माहिती पोलिसांना मिळाली आहे.

पुण्याला अमली पदार्थांचा विळखा?

• गेल्या वर्षी ऑगस्टमध्ये ऑस्ट्रेलियाला पाठविण्यासाठीचे दोन कोटींचे चरस पुण्यात जप्त झाले होते.
• जानेवारी २००७ मध्ये टेक्‍सासला पाठविण्यासाठीचे अडीच कोटींचे हेरॉइन पुण्यातून जप्त झाले होते.
• त्याशिवाय पणजीमध्ये नुकतेच पंधरा कोटी रुपयांचे हेरॉइन पकडण्यात आले. ते पुणे- पणजी बसमधून जप्त करण्यात आले होते.
• पुण्यातील काही पब, कोरेगाव पार्क भागातील हॉटेले व उच्चभ्रूंची ऊठबस असलेली हॉटेले, क्‍लबमध्ये अमली पदार्थांच्या खरेदी-विक्रीचे व्यवहार होत असल्याच्या पोलिसांकडे तक्रारी आल्या आहेत.

पुण्याचे बदलते स्वरूप

रेव्ह पार्टी’मध्ये अटक करण्यात आलेल्या २८८ जणांपैकी २४९ जणांनी अमली पदार्थांचे सेवन केल्याचे त्यांच्या वैद्यकीय तपासणी अहवालात जिल्हा पोलिसांना आढळून आले आहे. एका जाहीर कार्यक्रमात जिल्हा पोलिस अधीक्षक विश्‍वास नांगरे पाटील यांनी याबाबत माहिती दिली. ते म्हणाले, “”रेव्ह पार्टी’मध्ये सहभागी होऊन अमली पदार्थांचे सेवन केल्याच्या आरोपावरून चार मार्चला सिंहगड पायथ्याजवळ २८८ जणांना अटक झाली होती. त्यातील आठ-नऊजण अमली पदार्थ विक्रेते होते. त्यामुळे त्यांच्यावर गंभीर स्वरूपाच्या कलमांन्वये गुन्हा दाखल करण्यात आला आहे.”त्यावेळी पकडण्यात आलेल्या युवक-युवतींनी अमली पदार्थांचे सेवन केले आहे किंवा नाही, याची खात्री करण्यासाठी त्यांची विशेष वैद्यकीय तपासणी करण्यात आली होती. त्याचे अहवाल आज मिळाले आहेत. त्यानुसार २८८ जणांपैकी २४९ जणांनी अमली पदार्थांचे सेवन केले होते, असे आढळून आले आहे. त्यांच्यावर कायद्यानुसार पुढील कारवाई होईल, असे त्यांनी सांगितले.

The drug test gave positive results for 249 convicts out of the 288 arrested. Thats quite high percentage. Hmm..tough deal, lifes isent a joke.

Happy Birthday Orkut

Today is Orkuts 3rd birthday.

The Beginning
Orkut was quietly launched on January 30, 2004 by Google, the search engine company. Orkut Büyükkökten, a Turkish software engineer, developed it as an independent project while working at Google (required by its policy). Some discomfort with this exists among users and potential users of orkut, especially since Google’s other noteworthy product of 2004, the Web-based email client Gmail, had servers scan emails for keywords in order to deliver advertisements targeted at them, which sparked an idea that Google was “reading your email”.

While previously working for Affinity Engines, he had developed a similar system, InCircle, intended for use by university alumni groups. In late June 2004, Affinity Engines filed suit against Google, claiming that Büyükkökten and Google based orkut on inCircle code. The allegation is based on the presence of 9 identical bugs in orkut that also exist in InCircle. Originally, the orkut community was felt to be elite, because its membership is by invitation only. However, at the end of July 2004 orkut surpassed the 1,000,000 member mark, and at the end of September it surpassed the 2,000,000 mark.

While the intended invitation method was e-mail between two acquaintances, invitations to orkut are obtainable via the web with a bit of diligence or eBay, just like Gmail invites.
Orkut’s use as a social tool is complex, because various people frequently try to add strangers to their own pool of friends, more often than not just to increase the number indicating their number of friends next to their name in their profile. Many “add-me” communities exist, solely for this purpose. A large number of bogus, cloned, fake, invisible and “orphaned” profiles also exist.
As of today; there are 41,282,563 users on orkut.

Speed and reliability
Orkut often is unavailable, producing a “Bad, bad server. ” error message — behavior consistent with that of an underpowered server under heavy load. The outages tend to occur during the day hours in the Americas, home of more than 80% of orkut users.

Iranian censorship
Orkut was very popular in Iran, but the website is blocked by the government. As they say, this is due to national security issues, as orkut users have the ability to spread messages rapidly, but the government says it’s due to Islamic ethical issues about dating and match making. To get around this block, sites such as “orkutproxy.xom” (now defunct) were made for Iranian users. Other websites such as Groups likw Yahoo, Google have communities dedicated to receiving updates on the newest location of Iran’s orkut proxy. Though it was once possible to bypass governmental blockage of orkut, the site has closed its HTTPS pages on all anonymous proxies. Now it is almost impossible for ordinary users to visit this site inside Iran.

In August 2006 UAE followed the footsteps of Iran in blocking the site.

1. Recently an Indian girl had filed a complaint against a boy who put up her fake profile along with abuses and profanities. But now its gone a step above a notice was issued by the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court to Google’s social networking site Orkut, for spreading “hatred against India.” The Court responded to a public interest litigation (PIL) that took exception to a “We hate India’ community in Orkut. The community, set up by a *Russian, Miraslov Stankovic, states that it is against all those people who are against Pakistan. The community is about having a group of people who have enmity against India because of its oppressive and hostile approach, it says in the description of the community. The number of members of the community as on Thursday was 91, down from 100 the previous day.

2. A case has been filed against ‘Orkut’ website at Pune for deplorable denigration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Lord Rama. An assurance was given by the police to investigate the matter. The case has been filed under article 67 of Information Technology Act and article 505 of Indian Penal Code.

Actually, whatever may be the problems, its certain now that social networking groups have a long way to go. Lets wish Orkut a happy birthday and hope that it maintains a clean environment.

Google’giri’

Googlegiri is a new term which is used to symbolize an act of unexpected  fiasco of an overhyped incident arising mainly due to a lot of backfiring. This word was recently coined during the excessive wait of Google Wordmasters 2006 result, courtesy of Harshad Joshi and his colluges. Used largely in geek and nerd community, it can also be extended into common public. Its somewhat analogous to term ‘Gandhigiri’, which also became a sort of hype when the latest version of a  film called Munnabhai was released, although the terms and the meanings are totally unrelated.

Shrimant Baji Rao Vishwanath Bhatt (August 18, 1699- April 25, 1740), also known as Baji Rao I, was a noted general who served as Peshwa (Prime Minister) to the fourth Maratha Chhatrapati (King) Shahu between 1719 until Baji Rao’s death. He is also known as Thorala (Marathi for Elder) Baji Rao.

Baji Rao was the son of the first Bhatt family Peshwa – Balaji Vishwanath. At the tender age of 17,he was appointed by Shahu as Peshwa upon the death of his father, keeping aside all other claimants.Thus making the position of Peshwa hereditary in the Bhatt family.It is quite clear from this appointement that Shahu recognised the talent of this boy and reared him as peshwa.Bajirao was well trained by the maratha cavalry generals who have distinguished in the war of 27 years.Perhaps his early association with these maratha cavalry made him a part and parcel of them.Like Shivaji or Dhanaji Jadhav, Bajirao was popular with his soldiers and even today his name is a honorable one in countryside.

• Baji Rao, who fought over 36 battles, is reputed to have never lost one.

• He was one of the first to understand and exploit the fragmenting Mughal Empire, following the footsteps of his father. The declining influence of the Sayyid brothers at the Imperial court was another factor influencing his decision to attack.

• The later Kingdoms of Scindias (Ranoji) of Gwalior, Holkars (Malharrao) of Indore, Gaekwads (Pilaji) of Baroda, and Pawars (Udaiji) of Dhar were Baji Rao’s creation of a Maratha confederacy as he wreaked havoc on the disintegrating Mughal Empire and set up his jahagirdars (governors).

• He moved the administrative capital of the Maratha Empire from Satara to the new city of Pune in 1728 with permission of his master. His general, Bapuji Shripat persuaded some of the richer families of Satara to settle in the new city, which was divided into 18 peths (boroughs).

His famous quotes are -
“Remember that night has nothing to do with sleep. It was created by God, to raid territory held by your enemy. The night is your shield, your screen against the cannons and swords of vastly superior enemy forces.”
