The LHC or Large Hadron Collider was supposed to fire a huge beam smashing atoms, colliding quarks, and whatnot, that was capable of turning Earth into a black hole @ 1:30 PM IST.
Its 2:08 PM IST, I am observing that I am alive, the people next to me are alive, the computers working properly, there is no power cut, the TV’s on, there has been no earth quake reported, my mobile network is operational, theres traffic on road..people are moving around, they seem perfectly all right ..All these things prove that Earth has been spared from becoming a black hole. I dont now if the scientists @ CERN got what they were finding, but I am pretty sure that the world wont end that easily, especially with me having a lot of desires left to be satisfied
Theres no प्रलय, heres no Doom’s day, theres no Apocalypse, Judgement Day has been postponed.
Rejoice Dudes, we have got yet another day to live..make the most out of it, who knows what those crazy scientist might be upto now..However, i cant help thinking. Bing Bang, Universe is great, but we have got so many problems like hunger, poverty, unemployment, racism, corruption, religious controversies, why cant someone try to solve them, I bet they are more challenging then Big Bang..
Hey…to know what CERN’s to, watch this live webcast from this site. All I can see is few people walking here and there..
Update on 10 Sept 9:30 PM IST
This news of earth being turned into a black hole was potrayed so cinematically by some Indian news channels that one 16 year old girl in Indore commited suicide when she saw that the world was going to end soo..The Indian TV media once again proved they are the biggest assholes in some aspects..No maturity, no sense, no originality..Mongrels…Crap heded blistering barnacles..
Hi Harshad,
CERN did indeed switch on the LHC, but only to warm up the machines and do some preliminary tests. They haven’t even began colliding the atoms yet. The first collisions take place in the second week of October this year.
If such a devestating cataclysm were to take place we wouldn’t know until 2012 when it reaches maximum performance and any hypothetical ‘mini black holes’ have had a chance to accrue and form a quasar inside the planet (which would be apocalyptic to say the least).
Having said that, no one can say for certain exactly what will happen once the LHC is colliding beams in ernest. Even CERN themselves admit that they can’t predict exactly what will happen and what chain of events will transpire. That’s a tad worrying. After all, nothing of this scale has ever been tested. Until now anyway.
There is a miniscule and remote chance that in four years, if Dr Otto Rossler and former nuclear physicist Walter Wagner are right, the earth will be experiencing some major negative changes. God forbid that happens.
2012 is a significant year for many reasons, (see the Mayan Long Count Calander and the Grand Allignment). I just hope that the LHC doesn’t make it a tragic hat trick for us.
Personally, I’m optimistic. The chance of tragedy is there. But it’s very small.
I thought all they were doing this time was firing one beam, and the micro-black holes that will swallow the world (not) from colliding two beams aren’t due for a few weeks?
geez … reading around the ‘net, it appears virtually none of the MSM is bothering with that slight (not) difference either …
So have some patience, still some time to plan for doomsday!
[...] 4, 2009, said they were engulfed in a wormhole that was created when a proton collision in the Large Hadron Collider warped time and space around their section of the lab. The group ended up in the parallel [...]
There is just no chance at all that CERN destroys the world. See the safety reports in http://www.arxiv.org

1) Mini black holes are quantum objects described by quantum gravity. Since we don’t know how to do quantum gravity we cannot calculate any probabilities (for creation, decay etc) except for the case that we use classical theories (general relativity). These give an absolutely negligible probability for a BH to be created. I wish that LHC creates one however. This way we might get a hint on how to construct quantum gravity.
2) If you could stand next to a mini BH you would feel no gravitational force (its field is extremely weak on macroscopic scales).
3) BH do not devour everything that stands in their way. They are black simply because if you cross the event horizon there is no possible way to get out. But in order to fall into a BH you need to have a trajectory that crosses its event horizon. If we replaced the sun with a BH nothing would happen. Well, there would be no light and planets would revolve at faster speeds (those closer to the BH would have complex rosette trajectories).
Sorry. Although i am a physicist, i am not so good at elementary mathematics. Those were 3 comments…
LHC is garbage: Not me oE=mc²/2
2009 is the end of Einstein’s space-jail of time and Fraud symbol E=mc²
Joenahhas1958@yahoo.com
Time is not a structure like space to allow space-to time-back to space jumping claimed by Physicists regardless of what physicists have to say about it because Physics is a business and not necessarily science or scientific and like every business it comes with fraud and fraud is Einstein’s space-time (x, y, z, it) continuum that led to fraud symbol E=mc² and yes I am saying that 109 years of Nobel prize winners physics and physicists are all wrong and space-time physics is based on scientific fraud. When “results” expected and “No” discovery, Physicists rigged Physics for grant money since the start of the industrial revolution. Physics today is at least 51 % fraud!

the lhc at this point in time is a very bad idea, there are far to many unknowns.
when they were testing the fist a-bomb they though it might light
the atmosphere on fire, sure it may have not happened in the end but they had to do it because lives were at stake and they had to end a long drawn out war. failure was not an option!
but there is no justifiable reason why we should chance fate a second time over such a small thing.
at this point in history there are more important things, i feel they should postpone the testing for a decade or so and devote those $$$
bones to some thing better like mining asteroids and or developing practical solutions for space flight.
like idk a space shuttle the common man could afford to buy, maintain and operate.
the simple fact of the matter is that these tests have no real world use/applications at the moment.
more over we already have the scientific/technological capability of achieving such feat’s as space flight with out the lhc.
to conclude my rant i ask what is the lhc going to do for me “the common man”? I’ll tell you, “possibly” kill me and every one else, and a whole lota nothing!
and for what to satisfy the curiosity of some egg head whom does not care about my thoughts
ideals and more over my genius!
fool’s, I’ll bet if it was put to a world wide democratic vote today they would be shut down tomorrow!
the end does not justify the means no manner how you dice it what so ever.
(after all its not like the lhc is going any where;)
i wonder what would happen if the lhc was fired up and then all the sudden the sun let out a giant solar flair?
after all our sun has an solar cycle of about 11 years between its major amounts of solar activity.
i remember back in 1999 and 2000 they were all worried over y2k and also over that nastier solar cycle thing.
which may i add will be at its height on dec 21 2012.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_cycle
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e1/Sunspot-bfly.gif
either way i think the test should be postponed until a time between our suns solar cycle.
sure it would take them 15-20 more years or so to do all the tests they want to do but “safety first” that’s what i always say.
as far as i have read the lhc only has a life expectancy of 10 years, during that time it will be upgraded once.
but for them to do testing in 2009-2011 then stop for 5 years and then resume for 3-4 years, would be way more safer.
idk the main and only problem with the lhc that ppl should be worried about is the unknown side effects if such a device.
no only to us but our solar system in general, it doesn’t take much research on the internet to find out that such things can go terribly wrong.
although the lhc is only a 10 year project, the simple fact of the manner is that if such an device were in operation for say 40 years there is some where between a 40-75% chance of catastrophic failure resulting in alot of the side effect’s that many have dismissed as being false misinformation.
be it mini black holes, strangelets, mono-polar particles, i would have to say they are the least of our worries.
after all are we ready for the information and research that would be generated by the lhc, what are the consequences of this information?
after the discovery of nuclear fission mankind had the ability to fully destroy its self, this in effect caused fear and panic and later led to the cold war, a struggle which led to the economic failure of communism in the ussr resulting in much poverty.
with great power comes great responsibility, that being said what makes these scientists the right people for this task?
what gives them the right to put our lives at stake even if the chances is only like .000000000000000000000000000001% especially when nobody can say for certain what will or wont happen.
i dont wana go on spouting out all this doom’s day jargon and referring to prophecy but even though i dont believe in that crap that does not mean im not going to at least try to avoid such things.
i think that those people responsible for the lhc are being very ignorant of peoples believes customs and ideals, if the lhc were built in canada here it would have been shut down already due to lobbying and petitioning, and more over for being a violation of the Canadian charter of rights and freedom’s (due in part to its timing in accordance with the dec 21 2012 thing).
figure that, if i believed in the mayan religion and customs (ha minus the human sacrifice of course) according to the c c r f they would be violating my rights and i could sue them.

Hey… Engineers and Physicists at CERN had cleared the fact that all rumours regarding creating microscopic black holes are all crap… So, Why take chap?:D enjoy dude…:D
